Class 1's Recycled Fashion Show

After visits from Tropical Inc and a couple of drumming workshops from Unbeatable Energy and our new friend Henry, we explored where materials for our clothes and toys come from.

We found out that animals are becoming endangered and that there are people around the world who make their own clothes from waste.

Check out these amazing flipflops we have looked at, can you guess what they are made out of?

We had a go at making our own recycled fashion and put on a Fashion Show for the nursery children with music influenced from our drum workshop.

Do you think you could help save endangered animals by recycling or repairing any of your clothes?

We Found a Dinosaur Egg!!

Look what happened today!! When we arrived at school we followed huge footprints to Nursery garden and it looked like something had destroyed all of the toys.

We packed a bag of explorers equipment then went out on our adventure.

Ask us some questions on VoiceThread below, by pausing then clicking the 'comment' button and we will answer them.

(Please keep all arms and legs inside this blog post whilst reading)

We will be exploring a world of Dinosaurs!

Then we will venture above and beyond, in to space!

There will be Pirates, mountains, caves, rivers, waterfalls...

Take a look at 'Wild Self' that I created of myself. Maybe you could have a go before we start back at school, print yours out and bring it to school.

Wildself

And remember, the louder you scream the faster we go!

Phonics and Blogging Partners

Dear parents of class 1,

I have just updated the 'phonics' page on our blog. I have provided you with a link to very well resourced collection of Letters and Sounds videos provided by Mr. Thorne.

Mr. Thorne is a Year 1 teacher and shares his videos with the world for free. He very creatively demonstrates the strategies and vocabularly we use at John Davies to teacher phonics to your child.

When in Reception, we begin with Phase 1, work through Phase 2 and Phase 3, some children may even work with elements of Phase 4.

Please have a look at Mr Thorne's website here.

You may be familiar with Tiny Tots Day Nursery in Blackwell. The staff and children here have started blogging their learning journey and we will be sharing work together through our blogs. Please have a look at the work the children are doing at Tiny Tots on their blog as they will be looking at ours to leaving comments on our work.

See you in the new term,

Mr. Faulder

Merit Assembly: Spring Term 2

Hello!

This is the first time I have posted about Merit Assembly awards. I hope you enjoy the post and think it's a good way to celebrate the success of the children in Class 1.

It was very difficult to pick Merit awards this half term, all of the class have made huge progress in their learning journey. Both Mrs Sims and I are so proud of the children in our class.

Jared

You are number smart Jared. I tell Jared this all the time. Jared can see a number line in his head that reaches out to numbers I didn't know about myself!! In the last few weeks he has been counting backwards, beyond 0. Jared asked what numbers came before 0 when we were using our counting stick and that's how he found out about negative numbers. Since then we have been investigating temperatues with thermometres and talking about the weather so that we know how to use negative numbers. Thank you Jared, everyone in your class enjoyed using negative numbers this term.

Lex

Lex is the kind of friend everyone would like to have, and luckily everyone in Class 1 has one! Lex! He is always polite, helpful and kind. Lex will help other children do their jobs, listen to them when they are speaking and is courteous to adults and children. I bet Lex is also a good friend to children in other classes when he outside on the playground. I know that his favourite place to play was in the quiet garden and this is a great place to have a chat. You're such a brilliant friend Lex, thank you!

Liana

You have this Merit badge to celebrate your writing. Liana spends a lot of her time in the writing area, but it's not the only place you like to write. Liana makes cards and letters in The Den. She makes lists in the Role Play Area. There's always writing happening on the Creative table when Liana is there. There's even writing outside with chalk! Her stories are fantastic and well thought out. Super work Liana!

Sophie

This half term Sophie has become so imaginative. She is asking questions and then trying to find the answers herself by stopping and thinking about what she wants to know. Sophie has spent a lot more time in the Role Play corner pretending to decorate her bedroom with pink paint and a choice of wallpapers. Whilst making sea scape pictures this term she has tried out lots of different ways to decorate her fish. Keep letting Sophie explore at home, it's really helping her creativity reach new heights! Great work Sophie!!

Izzy

Wow! Izzy! You are so independent! Izzy will listen to ideas on the carpet at teaching time. She then talks about her ideas with her friends. Then when it comes to writing in her group time, she picks up the pencil and writes writes writes! She isn't affraid to use any of the new sounds she has learned and is confident in everything she writes now! Brilliant!! It doesn't stop there though, she's a great 'all rounder'. This means she isn't affraid to try ANYTHING new! In PE, design, art, dance, problem solving (... the list  could go on and on..), she always tries 100% and gets in there and has a go! Keep it up, it's a great attitude to have to learning Izzy!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the families of Class 1 children. This whole term has been a pleasure, your children have worked so hard and so have you! Have a lovely Easter holiday and we'll see you in Summer Term.
